This season's must-have: Fedora Hats

Worked as a receptionist at an international MNC for a day today. It's quite interesting to sort out international mails and to transfer international calls. But it can also be quite boring. Upon my arrival to work, the girl who showed me around actually asked me, "did you bring a book to read?"

Really good pay. But I feel guilty because I am definitely being overpaid.

Bought a plain black Fedora for S$15 at AMK Hub.

Discovered this cool photo website that allows you to take photos using your webcam with vintage French photo booth effects.

Having fun with my new Fedora Hat, which my brother calls a 'prop'.

Manhattan Fish Market is better than Sydney Fish Market

The first bite was heavenly. The mushroom burst out with juicy goodness, the calamari was crispy and not too chewy, the prawn was delightful and the rice was creamy and absolutely tasty.

But then there comes a point when we realised that the entire platter was too much for us to finish and it got a bit sick. :(

(The part where Xiuwei was supposed to finish if he didn't abandon us at the last minute)

And then I told Frederick that the plate of seafood is a lot like love. The first taste of it is heavenly, but then there comes a point where you get start to get sick of it and can't take it anymore. That is the point that one should stop eating before one indeed get sick from all of it.

But one thing is for sure, it tastes better than Sydney Fish Market!

Begin to find Singapore little boring

Went to Kitty Lab with Jasmine

Give 3.5/5 stars for it. If you have better things to spend on with $35, then I would advise you NOT to go

261109
Went back to Tuberculosis Control Unit to check the result of my Mantoux Skin test

There was no reaction in my skin at all

Met up with friends from KKH for dinner and some shopping at Raffles City

271109
Had meet up with Angela

Ate great lunch at a Japanese Restaurant at the basement of The Cathay

Encouraged by Angela to write down all the things I did for the summer :) (and so here I am)

Watched Gokusen the movie, give 3.5/5 stars

Will not start to watch Gokusen the drama because I think the plot will be very similar and I am not interested in the guys in the movies

Cut out a large plain black top that my mum was going to give away and transformed it into a cardigan (^_^)

Will blog about it in my craft blog soon

Did not run/cycle as I have planned

Need A LOT more motivation before I start

Watched Koizora (a Japanese movie) and am totally smitten by it right now

Huh? (I mean, pardon?)

It is well-known fact that the lexicon used in a country can differ from another.

Paw paw = Papaya
Aubergine = Eggplant
Couch = Sofa
Stroller = Pusher = Pram
etc...

Here are a few real life examples of instances where I have almost drowned myself in the sea of words and culture differences.

"So whereabouts do you stay?" - WRONG
"So whereabouts do you live?" - CORRECT

"I wanna get some tidbits." - WRONG
"I wanna get some snacks." - CORRECT
My friend who didn't understand me at first said that she would actually use 'tidbits' more as a adjective than as a noun, eg 'tidbits of information'

"Why is she alighting here?" - WRONG
"Why is she stopping here?" - CORRECT
I really don't understand why people was unable to understand the word 'alight'. I thought it was the more accurate word to use than 'stop'?

Ok, it's not that it is really incorrect to say the former examples, but you tend to have a higher chance of not being understood by the normal crowd when you do so.

I'll try to add a few more examples when I recall them. Meanwhile, good luck to all those who speaks a different lingo and are trying their best to make themselves understood.

See ya later, mate!

If I could offer you one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it

As I was packing my room in the last few days before my departure, I found a Ritz cracker box that I left near the window.

And this is how it looks like when I found it:

You should be in a state of shock at the sight of the box! If you can't tell what I am trying to show you, this is a close up:

Can you see the difference in the colour? The part that was exposed to the sun has turned pink, while the part that was shielded from the unforgiving sun of Australia was still red. And if you don't know, Ritz crackers come in red boxes.

So, the bottomline of what I am trying to say is that, the UV rays in Australia is SCARY. Please put on some sunscreen when you're in Australia. With what the UV can do to the colour of the box, imagine what it can do to your skin and its living cells beneath.

Can I slap you and then say I'm sorry?

What is the meaning of "sorry"? Is it a solution to all of life's problems, where a single word of "sorry" can solve all conflicts and grudges between people?

If so, there wouldn't be so much problems in the world.

How much is a "sorry" worth? Definitely not a lot.

The word "sorry" carries no weight and no meaning by itself. It is not saying "sorry" that matters. It is the sincerity that you put into your apology, and the actions that you take to resolve the wrongs which you have done that matters.

Anyone can say "sorry". So stop saying "sorry" like it can solve all the problems in the world.

"Sorry" doesn't mean anything to me at all.

Burn, baby, burn

Ok, so the psychology exams are finally over. Time to burn the notes..

Nah, just kidding. I'm greener than that. Burning releases unnecessary carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Recycling them is a much better choice.

Today's psych paper is worse than yesterday's. Well, I was better at making some intelligent guesses yesterday.

Sometimes I find that trusting your subconscious decision is better than debating the answers in your head over and over again. It seems like I may know the answers at the back of my head, but my overzealous attempt to do well has interfered with the retrieval process. Well, that is just my own inference. Quote Homer Simpsons, "Patent pending". HAHA.

Oh well, anyway my feelings over the apparent failure to listen to my inner voice is numbed by the other voice who keeps counting down to the days to go. So many voices in my head... so hard to concentrate...

Once it starts, it can't be stopped.

First paper tomorrow!

Intro Psychology, 1 hour paper, all MCQs.

I can't wait for the examinations to start.

Because once it starts, it can't be stopped. Then everything goes by in a flash, and I will be home in no time at all!

Hola, Holga

Whenever there are major exams coming up I always get caught by a sudden, unexplainable surge in an interest for a certain subject of matter. It has happened for so many times that I really wonder if there should be an explanation for the trend.

First I was into watching the Japanese dramas by the charming Tomoya Nagase whose dashing, good looks were almost as irresistible as Takuya Kimura (in my own opinion). I finished watching My Boss, My Hero and Mukodono on Crunchyroll during the June holidays in 2007 when I was supposed to be studying hard for my JC exams.

Then during the intense period of A Levels preparation at the end of the year 2007, I chanced upon the tragic lives of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. Surfing through the net I got more interested in their lives and was even scouring through the net for people who claimed to have evidences that Elvis is still alive.

This year, during the period of my End of Semester examinations for my 1st semester of Year 1, I was relieving childhood memories with the new and recent Crayon ShinChan episodes that I was able to watch online (thank god for Youtube). Alas, good things didn't last for too long as I quickly ran out of new episodes to watch. Well, unless I could understand Japanese (without the Chinese sub), I actually still have more episodes to watch on Tudou.

And now, I am going crazy over thinking which film camera to buy for some novel Lomo effects.
The Diana Mini seemed to be the answer. It's cute, 'affordable' and Holga! Then I read some bad review about it and changed my mind... And all hell break loose as I try to search through ebay for the most value-for-money-and-for-that-stupid-novel-lomo-effect-i-am-crazy-over. So many things to consider in toy/plastic/film camera... or should I invest in a real SLR? Ok the latter seems to be out of the question judging from how I get tired of things really easily. (Fortunately I didn't buy that Fujifilm Instax Mini when I was in secondary school)

15 more days to the end of exams. I can't wait for it to be over so that I can start hunting for my film camera!
